Saving Money October 15, 2009

Here’s some ways I use to help save money.

1. Thrift Shopping -

What I love about thrift shopping is that I am able to by name brand clothes for my son and hardly any cost. I’ve bought TCP, Baby Gap, Polo, Osh Kosh, Tommy Hilfiger, Gymboree, & Blooz for no more than $3.00 a piece. Talk about a great deal! And most items were barely worn. These items can be resold (craigslist, Once Upon A Child) to earn little money back on your purchase because of the fact that they are name brand.

Toys, lets not forget the toys. 99% of all of Nathan’s toys are from the thrift store. What I love about buying them from the thrift store is that they are cheap, most ARE brand new from others kids whose parents bought them new and then they didn’t play with them, and finally, if they break, no big deal, I didn’t pay hardly anything for them.

2. Grocery Shopping -

It doesn’t bother me to buy generic, not only do I save a lot of money, I don’t know the difference in taste. Doing this enables me to be able to splurge on the one item I will not buy generic or any other brand other than Dennison’s Chili. I can also try a new food if I want to because I’ve been able to save elsewhere.

Don’t forget to use coupons when you shop. Don’t use coupons for products you don’t buy, other wise you won’t save money. If you already want to try it, go for it. If you used $2 worth of coupons once a month, that’s $48 dollars at the end of the year that can go towards paying a bill or a special treat.

Another thing I like to do is look at the bargain bins. Usually in a cart at the front or the back of the store. I’ve found throat spray, pain killers, cups, specialty foods, and the most recent AWESOME deal full size boxes of Shout’s Color Catchers for $.98 Those are between $3 – $4 in the store normally.

I ever shop now without a list. It helps me make sure I have everything and don’t forget what I need for my meals. I’ve also found that shopping without the hubby or kid helps me to keep cost down, but also, I can take my time to comparison shop and get the best deal.

Shop bread outlet stores, see my post here for info on that. It will save you tons!

3. Meal Planning -

A couple months ago, I bought whatever came into my head and still had hardly any meals to show for the month. Now, I’m a meal planner. It’s not easy to come up with 28 – 31 meals a month, but I’ve found that not only is it a time saver, but also a money saver in the fact that I’m not running out to the store or fast food to get something for dinner that night because I didn’t plan properly. In another blog post sometime, I’ll share how I plan my meals.

Those are a few things I do to try to save some money. Of course, there are more ways to save to save money, pay your bills on time, shopping clearance sales, yard sales, etc.

Great post! I love thrift stores too. We are in the market for an exersaucer type thing for Aiden and will be hitting thrift stores until we find one in good shape at a reasonable price. :) Yard sales are great but here we get more “old people” sales than ones with great kids stuff. I also like to “shop the classifieds or craigs list” for an item I might need.

When I found out I was expecting I knew I wanted a rocker recliner. I checked a local website where ppl post items for sale and found one like new for $75.– the people didn’t like the color. Go figure.

Look forward to your weight loss post!
