Frugal Friday – School Supplies

The charter school we use has an annex with many resources available to us. Paint, paper, pencils, books we can use along with our main subjects, a library and even media resources. Probably some I’ve forgotten to mention. Even with all those great resources, there are some that aren’t provided or I forget to get what I need when we are on campus for classes. Since the drive in nearly 30 minutes for us, it’s not convenient to drive out there every time I need something.

Enter ‘Dollar Stores!’ I LOVE using my local dollar stores for extra school supplies. Paper, pencils, pens, crayons, paints, construction paper, crafts supplies, you name it, they almost certainly have it. Even a selection of books on varying subjects that can be used on breaks or while traveling during the school year.

The only thing I don’t buy at dollar stores is crayons. I’m just picky. I prefer Crayola.

If you don’t already shop dollar stores, why not give it a try? You’ll be pleasantly surprised the goodies you can find.

A New Adventure Begins

Wow! I didn’t realize it had been so long since I posted!

Our family embarks on a new adventure September 3rd. ‘Whats that?’ you wonder. We’re starting our first year of home schooling. We weren’t happy with our public school experience and decided to give home schooling a try.

I had looked at several virtual schools and well as a local eCademy and none really seemed suited to what I was looking for. Thanks to a friend who home schools her children, I was introduced to Connections Academy. I really wanted a school that did field trips so my son could still be in contact with other kids. This school offers regular field trips, the whole family is invited. I was also impressed with the books for the grade level my son is in, 1st grade. The pages are colorful with large print. Since my son is still learning to read, I love that.

I feel excited, and so does my son. But I’m also nervous too. I was home schooled back in the day when it wasn’t popular to do so. I hated it. I didn’t want that for my son. I’ve got alot of support, so that helps me feel better.

You may see a post or 2 here and there about how it’s going.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!
